"It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it."

- Warren Buffett

Things and trends, tangible and intangible, changes over time. Selling techniques are no different.

The phrase, "Always Be Closing" made famous by the movie Glengarry Glen Ross in 1992 was a marked reminder to all of a time when sales was a professional with a "take no prisoners" approach, and where "No" is not an answer. It is one of those approaches that give salespeople a bad name.

Then came a movie, "The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard" in 2009 by Don Ready, where it is all about sales pitches. Turning black into white and white into black. You know what I mean? Watch what I mean HERE.

In today's world, PITCHING OR SELLING are old taglines. The new kid on the block is now a buzzword that you can find in our video explainer below.

TRUST is not the new norm.

Our earlier article, "Stop Selling! Start Building Trust First!" explains why this is happening.

Warren Buffet quote, "It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it.", depicted a perfect scenario. When you break trust, you lose the sales almost immediately.

So the next time when you pick up the phone to answer a prospect's query, forget about SELLING and PITCHING. Think about how you can build TRUST first. It is all that matters in today's world.

SELLING and PITCHING only get you closer to a discount. TRUST builds the foundation for a value-driven engagement.
