The Lunar New Year is just a few days away. Many Chinese around the world are busy preparing for the big celebration.
The Chinese believe in many traditions surrounding the Lunar New Year. To many foreigners, it is seen as culture and while others treat them as superstition.
Sales has its fair share of superstitions as well. Let us look at some of these as we immerse ourselves into the Lunar New Year mood.
THAT CERTAIN COLORED SHIRT OR DRESS
Tiger Woods usually don his red shirt during finals of his games. Many sales believe that wearing that particular favorite color shirt or dress, or in the video clip below - a particular shorts, during closing stage of a sales or meeting would bring a higher chance of winning the deal. I am certain after seeing this clip, it all makes perfect sense.
THAT PARTICULAR PEN
Personally, I used to have a gold pen with me specifically for signature purposes. And this will usually be for sales contracts signed between me and my customers.
For some people, it could be the color of the pen ink - black or blue.
Scott Sylvan Bell sums it up really well. Take a look.
THAT LUCKY HOUR
I know of some sales people who only visit prospects at specific times. Not because the prospects ask for it, but it is that "lucky" hour that increases the chances of winning. Some even refrained from any appointment times between 4pm to 4.59pm, with 4 being an unlucky number for some Chinese.
THAT SITTING DIRECTION
There are some sales people who would insist sitting facing a particular direction for all kinds of meetings, including those with a prospects. That claimed that the direction enhances their performance and luck and helps facilitate a better conversation with a prospect.
